Maple leaf rag7/8/2023 Born to Florence Givens and Giles Joplin, Scott grew up in Texarkana, a town situated on the border between Texas and Arkansas. Scott Joplin's exact date of birth and location is not known, though it is estimated that he was born between the summer of June 1867 and January 1868. He died in New York City on April 1, 1917. Joplin also penned the operas Guest of Honor and Treemonisha. He immersed himself in the emerging musical form known as ragtime and became the genre’s foremost composer with tunes like "The Entertainer," "Solace" and "The Maple Leaf Rag," which is the biggest-selling ragtime song in history. Just fix it in post.Born in the late 1860s somewhere along the border between Texas and Arkansas, Scott Joplin took up the piano as a child and eventually became a travelling musician as a teen. Since there was so much clean-up work required anyway, there was no real incentive to waste time getting a high-quality recording of the performer. If the performer introduced any sort of tempo change or rubato, it would get mangled when the notes "snapped to" the closest note divisions at the original tempo. Some of the less technologically-advanced systems (including the "doctored" Joplin rolls produced by Connorized) had a very low number of "punch holes per measure", resulting in a sort of forced quantization. Some systems didn't actually punch the holes, they just marked the paper, and the technicians had to come in afterwards and interpret the markings. For example, some systems were incapable of recording dynamics, so the technicians had to go back in and add those manually, according to their taste. It was a very imperfect, buggy technology, and nearly always required some amount of intervention from the recording technicians. Real-time capture technology didn't arrive until later (only 4 years before Joplin's "recordings" were made), and was initially something of a marketing gimmick. Remember that the original piano rolls were essentially "sequenced midi", not a captured performance.
